Does CBD Show Up on a Drug Test? THC, Trace, Hemp, Test and More
As awareness of the effects and benefits of industrial hemp products, mainly CBD grows and, at the same time, the demand for CBD products increases, it is understandable that consumers have many questions about the way it works, production, safe use, and effects CBD has.
Regardless of whether you are a new CBD user or have been using it for some time, you certainly want to know does CBD show on drug test. You may be interested in how long it stays in your body too. Let’s learn the answers.
CBD, THC and Drug Test
CBD and THC are two compounds identical according to their chemical formula, yet different when it comes to their structural formula, i.e. spatial organization of atoms, namely one of the hydroxyl groups. As a result, CBD and THC connect to different receptors in the human brain, which, consequently, leads to different effects. THC is a psychoactive substance, while CBD is not. However, what happens with CBD and THC on a drug test? Does CBD show on drug test? Does THC show on a drug test? Let’s find out.
CBD products that are manufactured from CBD-rich industrial hemp contain only trace amounts of psychoactive THC or do not contain it at all. This is related to the legal status of CBD as well. Namely, for a CBD product to be legal for sale and use, the THC level in the hemp oil and other products must be within the permissible level, i.e. less than 0.2% THC. How does this affect the drug test results?
For all those who fear that the CBD oil or CBD edibles they are using might show up on their drug testing results, there is no reason to panic. Initial research conducted to address this crucial issue has shown that a drug test cannot determine that someone has consumed a CBD product with a THC level of less than 0.2%. Even with extremely high doses, no trace of CBD in the urine was found.
There is no fear for CBD users, as research shows that no trace of THC has been found in users who consume 200-300 mg of cannabidiol a day, and smaller amounts of 100-150 mg of CBD oil are 100% safe.
Regarding the use of oils containing a higher amount of THC, studies have shown that drug tests did not register THC in urine when users consumed 0.45 mg of oil, but when increasing the level to 0.6 mg, as many as 19% of subjects tested positive for THC. That’s why we generally conclude that THC does show on a drug test, while CBD does not.
Different CBD Products
We should know the difference between CBD isolate and full–spectrum CBD. CBD isolate is the purest form of CBD obtained naturally. It contains 99.99% of CBD itself. It comes in a crystal form and resembles diamonds. CBD isolate is consumed in powder form obtained after crushing the crystals. If you want to consume the cleanest form of CBD, you should buy CBD isolate.
On the other hand, full–spectrum CBD is a term used for various CBD products, such as CBD oil, CBD gummies, and other CBD edibles. These products contain a varying percentage of CBD. Also, they contain THC in varying amounts. The demarcation percentage is 0.2% of THC. This is both the legal limit in most countries and the critical limit for drug testing.
How Long THC Stays in Your Body by Taking in CBD
This issue especially bothers consumers who are unsure if they will have a problem if their employer requires a drug test. While it is difficult to answer the question about how long CBD and THC from CBD remain in the human body, as it depends on many factors which affect the speed at which your body will process it, it can safely be said that it will not stay in the body for more than a week.
The rate at which this cannabinoid would leave your body will also depend on how you consume it – by smoking, orally, with a vaporizer, as an edible, etc. It is assumed that CBD and THC will disappear from your body in 2-3 days for light consumers and 3-7 days for consumers who consume larger quantities.
Why CBD Can Cause You to Fail a Drug Test
Drug tests exist to determine the presence of drugs in the body that causes psychoactive activity and that cause intoxication or the so-called “high feeling”. While herbs, cannabis-derived hemp and marijuana come from the same family – Cannabis Sativa, CBD does not cause intoxication or the “high” feeling. Moreover, most countries legally restrict the percentage of THC to only 0.2 %, or CBD products may not contain it at all. That’s why your drug test should come negative. However, you might fail a drug test if you used excessive amounts of CBD in a short period or you are using a CBD product from an unsafe source (the product might contain more than 0.2% THC). Therefore, if you want to be 100% safe, buy only pure CBD isolate containing 99% pure CBD without other cannabinoids.
What CBD Types Should you Consider?
There are many different CBD products safe for use. You should consider pure hemp oil, CBD isolates with 99.99% CBD, or edibles, such as gummies. Check the recommended use and instructions before buying the product. From the legal safety point of view, any CBD product containing less than 0.2% THC will not make you fail your drug test.
In conclusion, a pure CBD isolate or a CBD product with less than 0.2% THC will not appear on a drug test. Moreover, CBD products remain in your body from 2 to 7 days after consumption. This also depends on the concentration of the product and the amount taken.
